Fisheries management & governance

Management plans, vessel registration, catch monitoring, and harvest strategies for small-scale and industrial fisheries.

Oceanect supports governments and development partners in designing and implementing fisheries management frameworks — from harvest control rules and management plans to vessel registration and catch monitoring systems. Recent work includes World Bank operations in Somalia (Badmaal), Indonesia (Lautra, ProBlue, Higher Performing Fisheries), and the Pacific Islands (PROP).

Value chains & sustainable seafood

End-to-end value-chain governance from harvest to retail — traceability, MSC certification, FIPs, market standards.

Oceanect works across the full fishery value chain — harvest, post-harvest, export, retail and food service — to enhance market competitiveness, traceability, and sustainability. Work includes Indonesia’s first MSC-certified fishery (AP2HI), Fishery Improvement Projects, and supply-chain due diligence for seafood companies and certification bodies.

Marine biodiversity & MPA design

Habitat management, MPA design and management, coral reef ecosystems, nature-based solutions.

Oceanect supports MPA design, habitat management, and biodiversity programming across the Coral Triangle, the Pacific Islands, and the western Indian Ocean. Work includes coral reef rehabilitation and management programmes (COREMAP), marine spatial planning, and nature-based solutions for coastal resilience.

Fisheries information systems, M&E frameworks, monitoring tools, and custom data platforms.

Oceanect designs and implements monitoring frameworks and information systems for fisheries and marine programmes — including catch monitoring, MRV systems for results-based finance, and custom data tools. Examples include MantaWatch (crowdsourced marine megafauna monitoring), FishPanel, and the Ocean Impact Navigator.

Blue economy & policy advisory

Strategic planning, marine spatial planning, institutional development, cross-sector coordination.

Oceanect advises governments on blue-economy strategy and policy — from institutional design and marine spatial planning to public-private coordination mechanisms. Work supports development bank operations across Indonesia, the Pacific Islands, Timor Leste, Kiribati, and Somalia.
